Occasionally one might see a restaurant on television that celebrates a customer's birthday with singing waiters and a free item on the menu. Unfortunately, these places actually exist. Farell's Ice Cream Parlor has been opened in the city of Brea, but it has recently flocked in customers from OC with its relatively new establishment in Buena Park. The ice cream parlor was famous for having singing waiters come to the customer with a free sundae if it was his or her birthday. I was somewhat fortunate enough to experience this ice cream parlor.

By: Tracy Van Every kid at one point in his or her life loves a good time in a nice, typical birthday party bouncy house. As one ages and one birthday after another passes, parents often begin to turn down the idea of a bouncy house with the common reasoning that one has simply “outgrown” such a childish activity. If this is the case, does that mean that bouncy houses are a no-no forever as one becomes older? By: Erika Higbee If there were only one way I’d prefer to spend a romantic evening, it’d be indulged in sappy love poems. If there were only one man who knew the way to my heart, it’d be Pablo Neruda. Put the two together, and I’m underneath my covers with dim lights, a sleepy conscience, and Cien Sonetos de Amor in my hands. For all my fellow Spanglish (Spanish and English) speakers and hopeless romantics, this book couldn’t be more suited to our needs. Pablo Neruda is a Chilean poet who writes Spanish poetry—yes, Spanish poetry—that intertwines the affectionate, earthly, and daily-surrealist-and-political nature of his culture. But you need not worry about knowing the Spanish language. The most appreciated aspect about his book, without doubt, is the sensual joy and fluency of its original Spanish version on the left-hand side, and, at the same time, its accompanied English translation on the right-hand side. By: Michelle Phan On the eve of Independence Day, I finally decided to take the drive down to Fountain Valley to see for myself what this new craze was all about, this new hype that had everyone posting on Instagram and showing off to friends for months now, ever since the place first opened in February--I wanted to see what the big deal was with Afters, an ice cream shop. Many places have been hyped by the teenage population, such as Creamistry, another ice cream shop that most have forgotten by now, or Popbar, the up-and-coming popsicle place that has people flocking down to Anaheim. The fact of the matter is that these places became famous because of a clever and innovative idea, but many of them are nowhere near amazing and probably aren’t worth the five dollars for a small serving of ice cream. |

If we think that something is so terrible that it should be expunged from the historical record, avoided at all costs like it's the plague, or hurled into the sun, here's where you'll find out why we think so. Then again, we may have simply stumbled across something we loved and want to share it with you. Categories |
