The night of our Homecoming Game began with a load roar as our football players, running through a field of colorful balloons, greeted the crowd; as the greens and yellows and oranges shot up into the air, our blues and reds were waiting right in our stands. The Matador Nation—faces painted red and shirts covered in blue—was as ready as they could possibly be.
In addition to the intense game that lay ahead, many were just as anxious for the crowning of our 2014 Homecoming Queen.
A week of festivities prior to the game led to our ardent anticipation—who was to be the Queen?
All the campaigning, lunch-time activities, Instagram posts, voting name-tags, and bubble blowers were to culminate in the night of October 2nd, 2014.
The annual tradition commenced as the princesses and potential Queens, well-dressed for the occasion, awaited upon the grassy field. While the ladies gripped their bouquets tightly, the announcers were ready to relay the moment of truth—they were glad to welcome Jessica Tum (12) as our Homecoming Queen and Alex Cervantes (12) as our Spirit Queen.
Both beautiful young women accepted their flowers and crowns in their glistening dresses and vivid smiles.
