On September 4th, 2014, twelve girls on our very own Varsity Girls’ Volleyball Team were seen huddled in the middle of our Matador volleyball court. Made barely audible by the presence of a roaring crowd, the team carried on a famed volleyball tradition by howling “kick butt, yeah buddy!” to initiate the start of their preseason. Though the jubilant shout has long been a part of the girls’ season, evidently the team has another tradition to continue—maintaining the league championship title under their belts.
For three years in a row our girls have managed to secure the honorable title, and they are striving to continue their winning streak.
Their victory is quickly reaching its fulfillment. The future of our team is foreseeably bright, according to team captains Tanya Truong (12), Alex Cervantes (12), and Trinh Nguyen (12).
“I think the strong point of our team is that we never stop fighting,” commented Tanya Truong when asked about the greatest strength of her team.
“We consider ourselves more of a family and work together to get to where we want to,” added Alex Cervantes.
“With so much chemistry, we know how each of us are and how each of us play. We motivate each other and know exactly what to say,” replied Trinh Nguyen.
The expectation is high but so are the hopes. The well-known motto of our volleyball program—“one team, one family”—is certainly proving true. Make sure to see your Matador women in action as they begin their season on October 2nd in their first game where they will face the Aztecs of La Quinta High School.
