Friday Night Live gathered their red streamers and hundreds of posters to plaster the walls of Bolsa Grande during the last week of October. As their main interest, the members wanted to spread the message all over our school—literally—regarding the problematic nature of bullying and drug use. With announcements greeted by the "message of the day" and afternoons filled with informational lunch activities, our anti-drug use activists have arisen.
Tracy Van, president of Friday Night Live, commented on her club’s efforts: “I’m proud to call it a success this year again with the overflowing number people stopping by our tables and coming to sign the pledge banner to be drug free.”
And there, the hundreds of pledges commenced.
With the progression of the year, the members hope that our Matadors keep their promises.
The first step to the realization of their goals is what Friday Night Live hoped to establish during the entirety of the week: awareness.
Perhaps, a week of effort from the members could result in something much more—the extent of a few words carries a varied effect for each individual.
The topic, though presented lightly, has the capability of retaining an emotional response from those who have been affected personally. Without any personal interest, the week might have seemed nonchalant in its representation.
Regardless of any opinions that lacked a certain depth, Friday Night Live carried on with its Red Ribbon Week. Their cause, then, is that much more commendable—and so is their ability to carry on the message year by year like an Olympic torchbearer, ardent and resilient.
