Every five years, Vietnamese boy scouts from across the world gather in one place for an international jamboree. This year, the special occasion was located in Houston, Texas.
For some, this would be their third international jamboree; for me, this would be my first. Many people believe that all boy scouts do is tie knots, make campfires, and sleep outdoors. However, I saw a different view when I met boy scouts from around the world. I learned about good food in Canada, the different uses of Australian colloquialism, student life in Virginia, and I even learned about the parties in UC Santa Barbara. Experiences like these show that one international event can easily turn strangers into friends--even if the next time I see them will be five years from now.
