As a sophomore in high school, Kimberly Ho has already both exceeded and defied normal standards—she dares to to be different, from her quirky personality to the impressive experience she has in performing.
Kimberly is your average teenager at Bolsa Grande High School—she is involved in choir, MESA, French Club, and Lip Sync, to name a few. But outside of school, this 15-year-old actively pursues a passion that has played a large role in her life—dancing.
Since the small age of 7, Kimberly has been dancing ballet and, as she puts it, a little bit of any dance she came across—including hip hop, jazz, and cultural. Currently, she is a part of a hip hop team called Theorem, which is a varsity dance team in West Covina that represents Ecsntrcs, the Gold Medalists of 2014 at this year’s Hip Hop International competition. Practices are 8 PM to 12 AM every other day of the week, and she says that it is difficult to find a ride to practice and to find the time to squeeze in homework. “However,” she says, “the atmosphere is great there and I am very happy to have met everyone in this dancing community...I see dancing as a way to release stress when a day isn’t going well for me, or when I’m just looking for a fun time.”
Kimberly definitely has a few qualities that separate her from the rest of her classmates. For the most part, she is fun-loving and simply out there to enjoy life, but when asked about what she is most proud of, she gives an answer that suggests her uniqueness—“I am most proud of my philosophical progress and my art progress. These things define who I am, though often I must hide them or otherwise I’d be seen as a heretic for the way I think, thus leading to consequences. But, that’s life.”
