Boogar. At a first glance, one may be trying hard to stifle back some chuckles as one childishly proceeds to pronounce the following name as “Booger.” And so goes the story of Mr. Tyler Boogar’s life—or to be more exact, a single story of his life.
Properly pronounced as “Bow-gar,” the surname “Boogar” is said to be of Dutch origin, though new matador math teacher Mr. Boogar clarifies that he is not Dutch himself. He is rather a Huntington Beach native who moved to the warm beach and surf city from Los Gatos near the Bay Area at the age of six months. Ever since his move, he has happily resided in Huntington Beach and has attended the schools in its area throughout the years.
When asked about what careers ever came to his mind, Mr. Boogar candidly responded that “I always knew I wanted to be a teacher, not necessarily a math teacher but I knew from elementary!” He credits along with his “awesome and cool” elementary teachers, his loving parents as his main influences that really inspired him to strive to become a teacher.
“Over the years in elementary, because of my teachers, I really wanted to teach whatever grade I was in at the time! All except middle school; I knew I did not want to teach middle school!” In terms of his specific choice in career to become a math teacher, Mr. Boogar, with a chuckle, explains that he “really began to fall in love with math in high school,” leading him to ultimately decide that math was the one for him. Thus after graduating from Marina High School, Mr. Boogar continued his education at Cal State Long Beach where he received his B.S. in Math education and began his credential program to finish his masters.
It is from that credential program that our very own school has been able to welcome Mr. Boogar into the matador family. After student teaching in the last 2013 to 2014 school year with our very own Mr. Cho, also admired and known to be the “GPA destroyer,” Mr. Boogar has picked up quite a few tips from the man who everyone knows to rule room 305.
From his unique experience student teaching, Mr. Boogar makes it a point that he knew immediately where he wanted to go teach after the program; the school of choice was none other than our very own Bolsa Grande High School!
He exclaims, “I really liked the staff and the students, so Bolsa was definitely my first choice. I’m actually really excited I was able to do that this year!” And with that, Mr. Boogar is finally set this year to teach his first official year of high school as a matador.
Quick to assimilate into the family of matadors, Mr. Boogar already feels at home and says that he cannot wait to get even more involved and be a part of extracurricular activities and programs here at Bolsa. What better attitude to start off the exciting new school year than that of our new teacher Mr. Boogar!
